Rye Harbour

Rye Harbour village is located approximately 2 miles from Rye main town centre and  sits near the estuary of the River Rother which flows for 35 miles through East Sussex and Kent. A Martello Tower (No 28) was built at Rye Harbour to defend the area against possible invasion during the Napoleonic wars. Now in decline this building  still stands majestic in its surrounds. The Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is a SSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) covering over 1100 acres, the Reserve is recognised as one of the most important sites for nature and wildlife in Britain currently entry is free. The network of footpaths provide fascinating walks along the sea shore, across fields and large areas of shingle. There is the opportunity to observe wildlife from several excellent bird hides.Camber Castle, built by Henry VIII, lies to the west close to Rye Harbour from a footpath through the Rye Nature Reserve. From Rye turn left off A259 towards Rye Harbour. Follow the road round until reaching the large car park on the right. Entrance to reserve is opposite the car park.There is an excellent sailing club here in the area https://www.rhsc.org.uk
